Developed in 1992, and applied extensively for the past 10 years by Hytorc, the world's leading hydraulic torque tool manufacturer, Stretch-To- Load Technology is the first of its kind. An integral part of every product we design, the technology provides benefits that no other bolting method can match. As purveyors of the Leakage-Zero Philosophy, Hytorc turned to Stretch-To-Load Technology to provide refineries, pipelines, and chemical plants with an assured leak-free startup. Their success with our technology led to the development of the Tension Gun in an effort to make the technology more accessible and easier to use.
Five Rules for a Permanently Tight Flange:
Well Cleaned or New bolts
A washer to avoid surface galling and control friction
A tool without side load
Parallel Joint closure
Even and accurate bolt load
We recommend new bolts for maximum joint-integrity, because used or poorly cleaned bolts may have been overstretched if tensioners were used on the application, in addition, galling or damage to threads will result in unknown frictions that will affect load consistency. A washer is necessary to prevent surface galling which can also result in unknown frictions and inconsistent load. When using the LoaDISC™ compression washer or Clamp™ replacement nut you have the surface protection needed and you provide an axial reaction point which eliminates side load and thus allows for a straight axial bolt elongation directly to the desired load. For the first time in history, desired bolt load can be achieved within ±5% without going over the desired load, thus allowing an attainable bolt load of up to 90% of yield. A solution is available for all bolting applications.
